Seasonal Lawn Maintenance

As seasons shift, varying weather conditions and pest infestations can pose threats to lawns. Seed to Stripe’s seasonal services guarantees a lush, green outdoor space for recreational enjoyment and consistent curb appeal whatever the season.

Spring Starter

Welcome the new season with our ‘Spring Starter’ service, designed to rejuvenate your lawn after the harsh and wet winter months. Bid farewell to moss-covered lawns, dead grass and decomposing garden material as we implement scarification, aeration, and targeted application of iron sulfate to promote healthy growth.

Early Summer

As temperatures rise, so do the challenges for your lawn. Our ‘Early Summer’ service tackles the emergence of weeds and persistent thatch issues with precision. Say goodbye to unwanted invaders like moss and weeds as we apply selective herbicides and iron sulfate, followed by nourishing slow-release fertiliser and liquid seaweed to give your lawn the nutrients it’s been craving – restoring it to its former glory.

Late Summer

Beat the heat and reclaim your lawn’s beauty with our ‘Late Summer’ service. Whether it’s bare patches or stubborn weeds, our tailored approach includes targeted herbicides and soil enhancements with humic acid and drought-resistant fertilisers, ensuring your lawn thrives despite the summer strain.

Autumn

As the season draws to a close, you may find yourself looking back, and thinking ‘What if?’. Get ahead of the game and prepare for the changing seasons with our ‘Autumn’ service offering. Say goodbye to drainage issues as we employ expert scarification and aeration techniques. Plus, with our early moss control application and nutrient-rich soil improvers, your lawn will be primed for vibrancy throughout the colder months.

Winter

Even in the darkest days of winter, your lawn deserves the best care. Our ‘Winter’ treatment combats moss growth and nutrient deficiencies with specialised control measures and foliar fertilisers, ensuring your grass stays healthy and resilient until spring blooms again.

Our seasonal treatments are designed to address current concerns while enhancing the overall health of your lawn for a limited time. Repeated treatments ensure sustained benefits, with each visit prolonging their effectiveness. Our programme is customisable to fit your garden usage, whether it’s an intensive Winter/Spring treatment to prep for a vibrant Summer lawn or minimal maintenance to carry your grass through to the next year. With our free lawn consultation, you’ll receive tailored recommendations for immediate and long-term results—no guesswork involved.

If Seed to Stripe services your lawn within a single season and you opt for our year-round treatment In for All Seasons programme, you’ll receive a 10% discount if you book within one month of the initial treatment.

Specialist Services

Our Specialist Services (Scarification, Aeration, Top Dressing, and Overseeding) are integral components of our annual and seasonal programmes. They demand specialised equipment not typically found in the average homeowner’s garden shed to ensure optimal results effortlessly. If you’re maintaining your lawn but feel it could use an extra boost, Contact Us today.

Let us complement your efforts with an additional layer of care.

Scarification

Scarification is a crucial step in maintaining a healthy lawn. Over time, your lawn accumulates organic material known as thatch—comprising cuttings, dead leaves, weeds, and other debris—that can impede oxygen, moisture, and nutrient absorption essential for lush green growth. Our commercial-grade scarifiers effectively remove this layer, ensuring your lawn remains vibrant and nourished.

Additionally, scarification creates grooves in the soil, providing ideal conditions for new seeds to germinate and thrive. By regularly scarifying your lawn, you not only prevent the buildup of thatch but also discourage weeds, pests, and diseases from taking root and spreading.

While scarification is typically performed in early Spring or Autumn, your lawn can benefit from light scarification monthly throughout the growing season. This proactive approach maintains your lawn’s health and beauty year-round.

This service also includes a complimentary moss treatment.

Aeration

Following dethatching, we aerate the lawn to facilitate the penetration of air, moisture, warmth, and our fertilisers into the soil around the roots. Depending on the size of your lawn, we offer various aeration options tailored to your needs.

Over time, soil compaction from lawn traffic and adverse weather conditions can hinder grass root growth, leading to diminished health. Lawn aeration addresses this issue by increasing air space, promoting healthy soil and root structures, and enhancing surface drainage.

By introducing these additional air pockets, surface water can easily drain away, reducing the damp, moist conditions favourable for moss growth. While aeration can be performed throughout the year depending on soil conditions, we typically recommend Spring or Autumn. However, if your lawn could benefit from aeration at other times of the year, we can accommodate your needs.

Top Dressing & Overseeding

Overseeding is a technique employed to introduce new grasses into a lawn, while top dressing levels out any unevenness and provides optimal conditions for seed germination.

As lawns age, they may develop thin or bare patches. By incorporating new seed, these areas can be rejuvenated to their former lushness.

The ideal time for overseeding is following scarification or aeration, as this allows the seed to make better contact with the soil. It’s essential to undertake this work when soil temperatures are conducive to recovery and germination, preferably with rainfall expected.

For successful germination, soil temperatures need to be warm, making mid to late Spring or Autumn the preferred seasons for overseeding. Additionally, new seed requires moisture for establishment, so we typically avoid Summer unless prolonged rainfall is forecasted.

Pests, Weeds & Moss

Treating pests, weeds, and moss can be complex, with recurring issues posing a continuous threat without proper knowledge and application techniques. Left unchecked, these invaders can render your lawn unusable.

Our services tackle these problems head-on, employing organic, chemical-free, slow-release solutions that offer long-lasting benefits unmatched by DIY products.

Weed and Moss Control

Our selective herbicide application effectively slows and halts the spread of unwanted weeds. Additionally, we offer iron sulfate treatment to dehydrate moss plants, facilitating their easy removal.

For those seeking a pristine, stripey lawn, the presence of weeds is a nuisance to be avoided. Left unchecked, weeds can outcompete grass for essential space and nutrients.

Our selective weed and moss treatments are available year-round, ensuring your lawn remains weed-free and picture-perfect.

Pest Control

Leather Jackets, the larvae of craneflies (Daddy Long Legs), are a prevalent lawn pest, particularly in new build lawns on the Isle of Man. These larvae target your lawn’s roots, devouring them until they develop wings and take flight. Later in the year, they return to lay more eggs, perpetuating the cycle.

The most effective and natural solution to combat Leather Jackets is the application of nematodes—microscopic worms that infect the larvae with bacteria. While harmful to Leather Jackets, nematodes pose no threat to humans, pets, or other animals.

However, the success of nematode application relies on precise dosage, application, and timing. Seed to Stripe ensures these critical factors are optimised to eradicate these pests effectively.

New Lawns

Establishing a New Lawn

New build homes and developments often lay turf on top of builders’ debris, leading to poor soil quality and insufficient depth for grass root system development. This can result in an uneven, weak, and waterlogged lawn—a breeding ground for pests and diseases.

To mitigate these issues, we address soil quality and compaction to ensure your new lawn can establish itself into a healthy, mature turf at a minimal cost.

Laying Lawn Turf

If you’ve invested in a new lawn, it’s crucial to safeguard your investment by ensuring your rolled turf takes root and remains problem-free. We address soil quality and compaction to facilitate the successful establishment of your new lawn, preventing common issues associated with new turf.

If you’re considering replacing a lawn deemed beyond repair, Contact Us before making the investment—we specialise in rejuvenating lawns on the brink.

New Lawn from Seed

When faced with a lawn beyond repair, opting for a more economical solution like seeding is often the best choice. Unlike rolled turf, which can be of poor quality and prone to weeds, seeding offers a cost-effective way to reset and start afresh.

From clearing weed-infested lawns to achieving those coveted stripes, we offer a comprehensive package to transform your lawn from seed to lush turf.

Commercial customers / contracts
